IXAfrica has launched East Africa’s first hyperscale data centre, NBOX1, in Nairobi, partnering with Schneider Electric to enhance the region’s digital landscape. This new Tier 3+ facility, backed by a $50 million investment from Helios, is designed to attract hyperscale and internet customers, providing a cutting-edge environment for cloud, colocation, and connectivity services.

Nicknamed ‘NBOX1’, the data centre is strategically positioned in Africa’s growing technology hub, the ‘Digital Savannah’. It features Schneider Electric MV and LV switchgear, ensuring stable, renewable-powered cloud services. As a carrier-neutral, AI-ready facility, NBOX1 offers a customer experience on par with North American and Western European data centres.

Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure for Data Centers architecture guarantees maximum resilience, uptime, and cost efficiency, aligning with IXAfrica’s sustainability goals. The facility serves a population of over 300 million, supported by a skilled workforce, cloud providers, and robust connectivity services.

CEO Snehar Shah highlighted Kenya’s readiness for hypercloud adoption, citing the country’s advanced cloud ecosystem, diverse internet connectivity, and sustainable energy sources. Schneider Electric’s solutions ensure high-quality power, meeting IEC standards and Kenya’s specific grid requirements, promising N+1 redundancy and a 99.999% uptime guarantee.

Mouna Essa Egh, Vice President for Secure Power, Middle East & Africa at Schneider Electric, emphasized the commitment to sustainable and innovative data centres, making NBOX1 a benchmark in the industry.
