Two of the continent’s big tech events land on the same dates this month. AI Expo Africa takes place in Johannesburg on 28 and 29 October, the same two days as TechCabal’s Moonshot in Lagos.

That’s a scheduling headache for anyone who wanted both. It also says something about how busy the African tech calendar has become. Ten years ago you’d struggle to fill one major event a quarter.

The two events pull different crowds. Moonshot leans towards founders, investors and the West African startup scene. AI Expo Africa is more focused on AI specifically, with a heavier enterprise and Southern African presence.

How to choose? Go where your clients are. If you sell to South African corporates thinking about AI adoption, Johannesburg is your room. If you work with Nigerian startups spending fresh funding, it’s Lagos.

And if you can’t make either, follow the speakers on LinkedIn and X in the week after. The best talks get clipped and shared, and the follow up conversations often matter more than the event itself.
