In the June quarter, Apple’s iPhone shipments stabilize amid a 6.5% growth in global smartphone shipments. Discounts during China’s 618 shopping festival drive market interest, with Xiaomi and Huawei making significant gains.

Recent independent research indicates that Apple’s iPhone shipments steadied during the June quarter, coinciding with accelerated growth in the broader smartphone market. According to International Data Corp (IDC), global smartphone shipments increased by 6.5%, while Counterpoint Research reported a 6% rise in consumer sales.

Key factors contributing to this growth include aggressive discounts during China’s 618 shopping festival, boosting consumer interest in the world’s largest mobile market. Companies like Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies have made significant gains this year, impacting market dynamics.

IDC noted that Apple shipped 45.2 million handsets during the quarter, marking a 1.5% improvement from the previous year. However, Counterpoint Research, focusing on end-user sales, reported a 1% decline and observed a slight decrease in iPhone market share.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi showed substantial growth driven by its entry-level models and expansion into emerging markets. The competitive landscape in China, where local brands dominate and foreign devices face restrictions in state-run workplaces, continues to influence market trends.

Both Apple and Samsung Electronics, the market leader, benefited from discounts and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) features, which attracted consumers and stabilized sales.

IDC’s research director Nabila Popal highlighted Apple’s improved momentum in the second quarter, driven by regional promotions and renewed customer confidence following Apple’s AI strategy announcement at WWDC.

Overall, these developments underscore a dynamic period for smartphone manufacturers, navigating competitive pressures and consumer expectations in a rapidly evolving market.
