OADC Texaf Digital, the first live Uptime Institute Tier III Certified open-access colocation data center in the Democratic Republic of Congo, goes live. The Kinshasa-based tech ecosystem marks an essential landmark in DRC’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem. The first phase of DRC’s First Tier III Data Center,OADC Texaf Digital will benefit multiple sectors of the DRC economy amid accelerated digitalization.

DRC’s Project in Detail

A brainchild of a collaboration between Open Access Data Centres (OADC) and TEXAF, OADC Texaf Digital will support a wide range of client base. Internet Exchanges, content providers, carriers, telcos, cloud operators, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are expected to be the center’s biggest users. The new facility sits within TEXAF’s SILIKIN VILLAGE, a digital hub, operated by award-winning WIOCC Group Company OADC.

Texaf Digital spans across 1,500 SQ meters of IT white space and hosts over 550 racks serving the colocation needs of enterprises, content distribution networks, local and international cloud providers. 

Texasf Digital boasts a 2-megawatts capacity, with plans to obtain an ISO27001 post-live certification reportedly in the plan for Q3, 2024. Per its power source, the center utilizes an environmentally sustainable power supply via hydro generation, abiding by low Power Utilization Effectiveness (PUE) requirements.

By leveraging the facility, businesses can improve process efficiency, personalize data center solutions, expedite digitization initiatives, and serve business and customer needs better.

Africa’s fastest-growing data center company, OADC, hopes to attract investment from large international Content Distribution Networks, global content companies, and cloud providers to Kinshasa. Locally, Kinshasa hosts a vibrant population of 16 million and highlights the potential demand for digital connectivity services within the DRC and Central Africa.

Meanwhile, the pioneer tech hub already hosts tenants establishing and installing their tech operations within its premises while latching on to the services of various telecom companies in the country. 

According to Mohammed Bouhelal, managing director of OADC Texaf DRC, Texaf Digital, over 12 leading national and international carriers are already connected to its services. The executive also disclosed that the banking sector holds the top spot among its clientele base while predicting a deceased cost of internet connectivity in DRC.
