Beijing hosted a China-Africa media exchange event on Saturday. Over 200 participants from China and Africa attended the event, including government representatives from either side.

The event, which aimed to boost media cooperation between China and Africa, was hosted by the China Media Group (CMG), the predominant state media company in the People’s Republic of China. The media roundtable boosted media cooperation and cultural exchanges between both parties amid strong support from African leaders.

Yoweri Museveni, Uganda’s President, sent a message via video emphasizing the importance of building a robust media partnership between China and Africa. Additionally, Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan and Central African Republic President Faustin Archange Touadera also lent their voices in support of the event via video messages.

Media Event Seeks to Strengthen All-round Collaboration between Africa and China

During the event, CMG announced that it intends to leverage advanced technology and shared media content between both parties to boost the tie. The recent media initiative would include a new documentary that highlights the achievements of China-Africa relations alongside the establishment of a cooperation mechanism with 11 top media outfits in East Africa.

According to the organizers, these efforts will promote deeper cultural understanding and facilitate a shared future between China and Africa. Reports claim CMG’s occasion serves as a prelude to The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, an event of the official forum between China and all African nations, except the Kingdom of Eswatini.

China’s President Xi will attend FOCAC 2024’s opening ceremony to deliver a keynote speech on September 5. The two-day bilateral event reportedly plans to drive a fresh blueprint for future relations between China and Africa, as China seeks to strengthen its African ties.
